New York Times Square: Center of the Universe
“The Crossroads of the World,” “The Center of the Universe,” and “The Heart of the World” are titles given to New York Times Square.
New York Times Square is in Midtown Manhattan. It spans from 47th Street to 42nd Street and from 6th Avenue to 8th Avenue (or, as others hold, from Broadway to 7th Avenue). Times Square is “the location” for commerce, tourism, and the entertainment industry. It is the home of ABC News, Viacom CBS, ESPN, MTV, Nickelodeon, The New York Times, Revlon, Six Flags, the Broadway Theater District, and much more.
Brightly lit billboards of advertisements and “news crawls” line the pedestrian-lined streets. You can mingle with street entertainers, shop to your heart’s content, catch a comedy act or television taping, or simply decide to people-watch. You may choose to experience the daily life of a New Yorker by taking a subway ride or be touristy and take a pedicab (a tricycle with a two-seat compartment to the rear of the driver) or double-decker bus tour. Whatever you decide, you’ll have fun.
Times Square is the world’s second most visited tourist site—only bested by the Las Vegas Strip. With over fifty million tourists a year, with over 400,000 in pedestrian traffic a day, Times Square is truly a bustling metropolis of excitement.
The New Year’s Eve ball drop is shortly coming upon us. This coming year may be the perfect time to visit New York Times Square.
